This is chronicling the failed proposal of the 1985 revival of Match Game.

After the failure of NBC Daytime's The Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour in 1984, plans were made to re-launch the series once again as a stand-alone series in daily syndication in order to be paired up with the short-lived 1985-86 nighttime revival of The Price is Right hosted by Tom Kennedy. Originally, Gene Rayburn was once again to serve as host, however, Rayburn has already committed himself to host the 1985 version of Break the Bank at the time and was unavailable. Later, the project was postponed and reruns from the 1979-82 daily version aired in its place.
